Agent ‘sustained non-life-threatening injury' from small-caliber weapon

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Less than six weeks after a Border Patrol agent died while responding to activity in the Big Bend Sector near Van Horn, Texas, another Border Patrol agent has been injured.

A Customs and Border Patrol spokeswoman said an agent assigned to the Riverine Unit near Brownsville, Texas, was assaulted on Tuesday.

She said the agent “sustained a non-life threatening injury from a small caliber weapon.”

The agent was assaulted on the Mexican riverbank.

The incident is currently under investigation, the spokeswoman said, and no other details were made available.

Investigators said they still do not know exactly what happened to the Border Patrol agent who died in Big Bend.
