SAN ANTONIO – A 40-year-old man was fatally wounded in his driveway after he was being followed, police said.
According to a police report, Anthony Garcia "was driving home in a hurry" at 11:47 p.m. Wednesday because he was apparently being followed by a vehicle. A lieutenant at the scene said as many as two vehicles followed him. Witnesses said they saw a pickup truck and a red two-door car speed off.
The vehicles drove past Garcia's home in the 1600 block of Mardel, where the victim apparently went into the street, the report said. He then ran back to his driveway, where he collapsed.
Officers found Garcia with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. He was transported to University Hospital, where he died.
Neighbor, Justin Rivera, 17, said he heard seven shots ring out, including two that hit another neighbor's car.
"We started to hear the ladies across the street (start) to scream, and that's when we ducked, and (took) cover, and we called 911," he said. "And around, like, no longer than a minute, cops just came, and they were searching the two properties for bullets, gunshot wounds.
"The one across the street, her car had some bullet holes in it. Feels like something from a horror movie, just, you never know, like, that could happen to us one day. Life could just, like snap, when you're at the wrong place at a wrong time."
No arrests have been made.
