Mugshot of suspect charged in Medina County fatal shooting released

James Marion Williamson charged with murder in shooting death in Devine

SAN ANTONIO – The Medina County Sheriff's Office identified the victim from Tuesday morning's fatal shooting near Devine.

The victim was identified as 46-year-old Toni Lea DeBuse. The Medina County sheriff also identified the suspect as 62-year-old James Marion Williamson, who was charged with murder.

Medina County deputies and other law enforcement officers responded to a call for shots fired around 9:30 a.m. at a home just off Interstate 35, south of Devine. DeBuse's friend called authorities, the sheriff said.

They found DeBuse with a fatal gunshot wound inside the home.

"Well, there's multiple weapons, so we have to work through that to find out which weapon was used. There's a whole bunch of things that can come into play — accidents, self-defense or just anger," Sheriff Randy Brown said.

The Medina County sheriff said Williamson had been detained for questioning after the shooting.

No further information has been released about the relationship between DeBuse and Williamson. The investigation is ongoing.
