Boy, 14, arrested in string of arsons in Castroville

Vehicles, building intentionally set on fire in 2 months

CASTROVILLE, Texas – A 14-year-old boy was arrested Thursday morning in connection with a string of arsons in Castroville.

Police Chief Chris Filline said the boy, who he called a serial arsonist, was arrested at his apartment.

"Everybody can rest easier tonight because of this (arrest)," Filline said.

Filline said the boy was responsible for several fires involving vehicles and a building over a two-month period. No injuries were reported.

The latest fire, which was reported Thursday morning, damaged two vehicles and two homes, Filline said.

"We were able to link him to this last one, and we're able to make the arrest and take the juvenile away from this community," Filline said.

Police had been keeping an eye out for the boy for the past two weeks. Tips and surveillance video helped police apprehend the juvenile, officials said.

Investigators said they believe an anger issue prompted the boy to intentionally set the fires.

The boy is being referred for one count of first-degree felony arson.
