SAPD: Gunman at large after shooting, wounds neighbor outside East Side duplex

Victim rushed to nearby hospital, police search for gunman

SAN ANTONIO – A search is underway for the gunman who shot and wounded his neighbor outside an East Side duplex.

San Antonio police said officers responded to the 200 block of Gorman Street where two men had gotten into a dispute around 9 a.m. when one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other.

“A neighbor to the victim for some reason unprovoked shot the neighbor,” SAPD Officer Carlos Ortiz said.

Police said the victim, a man in his 20s, was rushed to the hospital as officers stood outside the gunman’s home.

When officers stormed his home, they discovered the gunman was not inside.

A neighbor said the shooting sounded like a car crash, ending with a loud bang.

“I came outside to see if anybody was hurt because I heard a scream, I realized it wasn’t a car wreck,” Dorothy Markle said.

Markle said she saw a man running from the area with what looked like to her a shotgun.

The search for the suspect has left other people in the neighborhood, which is not far from East Houston and Pine Street, feeling uneasy.

Despite police saying this is the first time they have responded to the gunman’s home, neighbors said there has been an ongoing beef between two people involved.

Neighbors said the level of violence, however, was unexpected.
