Shots fired, possibly from taxi, leave 1 man wounded on East Side

Victim, 28, hit in upper body

SAN ANTONIO – A 28-year-old man is being treated at a local hospital after being shot in an East Side neighborhood by someone who drove up in what may have been a taxi cab.

San Antonio police say witnesses described the car involved as having a light on top and resembling a taxi.

They say there were at least two people inside the car when it rolled up to the corner of North New Braunfels Avenue and Hays Street around 4 a.m. Tuesday.

One person got out and began walking toward a group of people, firing his weapon the whole time.

The man who was hit was among a group of people who were shooting dice outside a home.

Police say his friends drove him to the Children's Hospital of San Antonio following the shooting. He was then transported to an adult trauma center for treatment.

Police say the last they heard, the man was in critical condition with a gunshot wound in his upper body.

Investigators are hoping to find witnesses or surveillance video that may offer more clues about the case.
