San Antonio makes top 20 list for cities with worst mosquito problems

Mosquito named world's deadliest animal, WHO says

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio didn’t top the list of U.S. cities with the worst mosquito problems but it did come in at number 12.

Four Texas cities made the top 20 list, with Dallas-Fort Worth coming in at number one for the second consecutive year.

The World Health Organization named the mosquito the world’s deadliest animal due to its ability to transmit serious diseases like West Nile and malaria, among others.

The top mosquito cities list was determined by examining data regarding Terminix services rendered by branches across the United States between July 1, 2017, and July 1, 2018, according to a press release.

  • Florida was the only other state with four cities on the top 20 list, followed by California and Tennessee with two each.

    Monday is World Mosquito Day which is observed annually on August 20.
