SA firefighters battle flames at 2 separate apartment fires overnight

Arson investigators called to both scenes to help determine causes

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio firefighters had a busy night dealing with two separate apartment fires overnight.

The first apartment fire was reported at the Branch at Medical Center Apartments just after 10:30 p.m. in the 7200 block of Snowden Road, which is not far from Babcock Road on the city's Northwest Side.

Firefighters said they arrived to find heavy flames. The fire damaged a stairwell before extending into the six apartments, officials said.

The residents of the six units will likely have to be displaced, firefighters said. Everyone escaped safely.

Arson investigators have now been called in to help determine the fire's cause. Officials did not release a damage estimate.

A second fire occurred around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at the The Villas of Castle Hills apartments in the 1000 block of Jackson Keller Road.

Firefighters said in that instance the fire was in a walkway and did not damage any units. No one was hurt.

The cause for that fire also is currently unknown. Both San Antonio police and the San Antonio Fire Department responded to the call.
