Man accused of drunkenly beating dog to death with 15-pound dumbbell sentenced to 2 years in jail

SAN ANTONIO – A man accused of drunkenly bludgeoning his girlfriend’s dog to death during a domestic violence incident was sentenced to two years in jail this week after pleading guilty in the case.

Animal Care Services said Leo Martinez beat the Siberian husky, whose name was Nightmare, with a 15-pound dumbbell.

The domestic violence incident happened at a home on West Mayfield in November 2017, officials said.

ACS had rushed the dog to an emergency hospital for animals, but it died two days later.
