4 people, including 2-year-old, hit in drive-by shooting on 'troubled' East Side street

SAN ANTONIO – Four people, including a 2-year-old and a 12-year-old, were shot in a drive-by shooting on the city's East Side Sunday afternoon.

Police were called out to the 600 block of Morningview Drive just after 4 p.m. and found three people with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victims found at the scene were a mother and her 2-year-old child and a 12-year-old who was standing across the street when the shooting unfolded.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said a fourth person, a man who was sitting on his porch, was also shot, but he was nowhere to be found when police arrived.

According to investigators, three firearms were used in the shooting and police believe that there was an exchange of gunfire. Police located a vehicle they believe was involved in the shooting, but said two suspected gunmen remain at large.

McManus said witnesses are not cooperating with police and acknowledged that the area has been plagued with violence for years.

"It is a very troubled block. I'm very familiar with it," he said. "Going forward, we think that it may not be so troubled after a while."

One witness told KSAT he heard gunshots ring out in the street, looked out his window and saw two men shooting. He said the two men got into a car, pulled out in front of a VIA bus and drove away. VIA bus cameras may have captured the shooting.

McManus said police have footage of the shooting, but did not specify where the video came from.

Police said it's unclear whether the shooting was gang-related.
