Heavy rains lead to sewage overflow, SAWS officials say

No adverse impacts expected

SAN ANTONIO – The recent downpour in San Antonio has caused a sanitary sewer overflow near West Military Drive and West Commerce Street, San Antonio Water System officials said.

SAWS crews will begin cleanup of the overflow once the floodwaters recede.

It is estimated the spill was 100,000 gallons.

Officials said no adverse impacts are expected, as the spillover was heavily diluted by stormwater.

SAWS is working to replace and upgrade capacity of sewer lines in areas prone to overflows throughout the city, with a more than $170 million capital improvements budget.
