Residents living near drilling facility that caught fire sue company, citing health problems

KARNES COUNTY, Texas – People who live near a drilling fluids facility in Karnes County that caught fire in July are now suing the company.

In the lawsuit, they claim the fire caused health problems and that Newpark Drilling Fluids was negligent.

The fire forced the evacuation of a nearby apartment complex and RV park. It took firefighters hours to put out the flames.

An assessment of the area found the chemicals that burned did not put people at immediate risk.

KSAT reached out to Newpark Drilling Fluids for comment and has not heard back.
