Coca-Cola considers cannabis-infused drinks

Company in talks with Canadian marijuana producer

Coca-Cola Co. is considering a line of beverages infused with the cannabis ingredient CBD, according to a report from BNN Bloomberg Television.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is the ingredient in marijuana that may help some health problems like pain, inflammation and insomnia. The drinks would not include THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, the chemical that produces a high.

According to Bloomberg, Coca-Cola is in talks with a Canadian marijuana producer.

"We are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world,” Coca-Cola spokesman Kent Landers said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg News. “The space is evolving quickly. No decisions have been made at this time.”

Cannabis products have become trendy. Coca-Cola certainly wouldn't be the first to develop cannabis drinks, but it would be a big deal given that it's the world's largest beverage company.
