Dozens of inmates relocated after bed bugs found at Bexar County Jail

SAN ANTONIO – Dozens of inmates at the Bexar County Jail were relocated after jail officials discovered 30 bed bugs.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, 64 inmates were removed from the jail annex as a precaution after the bed bugs were reported Tuesday.

The Sheriff's Office said the bed bug extermination process started Tuesday and takes three days to complete.

The inmates displaced by the bed bugs were relocated to the South Tower.

According to the sheriff's office, the inmates' mattresses were treated by the jail's pest control vendor, sealed in bags and discarded. The inmates' clothing was washed.

As a precaution, officials are inspecting other units for evidence of bed bugs.

The cost of the treatment will be determined when it is complete.
