SAPD: Drunken driver slams into police cruiser as officer tends to another crash

SAN ANTONIO – A drunken driver slammed into an officer's parked patrol unit as the officer tended to another accident on the highway early Sunday morning, police said.

According to authorities, a police officer was assisting with an accident on Loop 410 and San Pedro Avenue around 1:30 a.m. when a man hit the officer's car.

A preliminary report stated the officer was in the patrol unit and was taken to University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, identified as a 43-year-old man, was also taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said they will pursue a charge of driving while intoxicated. 

The collision shut down all but one eastbound lane of Loop 410 as officers cleared debris and processed the scene.
