Shootout inside East Side 7-Eleven leaves 1 critically wounded

Clerk, another man exchange gunfire, police say

SAN ANTONIO – For the second time this week gunfire has erupted inside a local 7-Eleven store.

The latest incident involved a shootout between a store clerk and someone else inside the business, located near Rigsby Avenue and Loop 410, according to San Antonio police.

Detectives investigating the case told KSAT 12 that a group of three people had entered the store around 2 a.m. Friday.

The clerk believed one of them was trying to steal something and an argument ensued, police say.

At one point, both the clerk and a member of the group pulled out guns and began shooting at each other.

Another member of the group who was not armed was shot in the head.

That man rushed to a hospital with what police say are life-threatening injuries.

Everyone else who was involved, as well as another witness, was taken into custody for questioning.

Detectives say they are still trying to determine who was at fault in the incident.

The gun violence happened on the heels of a shooting involving another 7-Eleven store earlier this week.

A clerk working at a store on the city’s Northwest side, in the 7900 block of Callaghan Road, was shot dead during a robbery early New Year’s Day.

Police are still looking for the person who shot and killed Timothy Collins, 42.
