SAFD: Fire damages empty building used for haunted house, local sports bar

Firefighters responded just before 4:30 a.m. in 800 block of San Pedro Ave.

SAN ANTONIO – An empty building used for a haunted house and a local sports bar were both severely damaged by an early morning fire, San Antonio firefighters said.

The fire was called in just before 4:30 a.m. in the 800 block of San Pedro Avenue, which is found not far from Interstate 35 and West Cypress Street.

Firefighters said the fire started in the abandoned building that often is used as a haunted house and then spread to the Supremes Sports Bar near it.

San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said they believe someone may have started the fire in an attempt to keep warm.

According to the San Antonio Fire Department website, as many as 30 units answered the call.

There are no reports of injuries.
