Fire destroys mobile home on NW Side

Cat killed, another unaccounted for in fire at Snowflake Mobile Home Park

SAN ANTONIO – A woman has lost her home and at least one of her cats in a mobile home fire on the Northwest Side, San Antonio firefighters said Monday.

The fire was called in just before 3:30 a.m. Monday at the Snowflake Mobile Home Park in the 7000 block of Snowflake Drive, not far from Bandera Road.

Firefighters said the woman who lived in the mobile home had been smoking on the porch just before the fire and had fallen asleep when neighbors caught sight of the fire.

"We woke up to a loud boom, and I looked outside, and the porch was already going in flames," said Gilbert Cortez, a neighbor.

Fire officials said the woman was not hurt, but one of her cats died and another hasn't been found.

The mobile home is considered a total loss.

"The whole trailer was engulfed. The lady made it out," Cortez said.

Arson investigators will determine the exact cause of the fire.
