Man arrested in deadly Southwest Side shooting

Santiago Escamilla, 32, killed in shooting


SAN ANTONIO – A suspect was arrested in a deadly shooting in which one man was killed on the Southwest Side last Friday.

Thomas de la Garza, 30, is accused in the shooting. Family members said he was dating a relative of the victim, identified as 32-year-old Santiago Escamilla.

Police said Escamilla and de la Garza got into an argument in a parking lot in the 200 block of Barrett Place. 

The argument ended with Escamilla being shot at least five times. He was later pronounced dead.

Police said they found de la Garza holding a gun, but he was arrested without incident.

De la Garza is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but those charges could be upgraded.
