SAN ANTONIO – A man suspected of leading Bexar County sheriff's deputies on a high-speed motorcycle chase and foot chase has been identified as a suspected drug dealer.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a deputy saw Jose Raul Monjaraz, 25, riding a motorcycle without license plates near Walzem Road and Heartline Drive on Saturday night and tried to pull him over. Monjaraz instead sped away, reaching speeds up to 85 mph.
Monjaraz led deputies through several neighborhoods on the Northeast Side before getting on Interstate 35. He drove north and got off at Judson Road, deputies said.
Authorities said Monjaraz ditched his bike and tried running away but was caught shortly afterward.
Online records show Monjaraz faces a charge of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle. He was also wanted on a warrant for possession with intent to deliver over 400 grams of a controlled substance.
According to an arrest affidavit, San Antonio police investigators found more than 9 kilograms of methamphetamine while investigating Monjaraz and another man in June 2018. However, the warrant for his arrest was only signed July 3 of this year.
He is being held on bail totaling $37,500.
