Motorcyclist dead after striking car on Loop 410

Crash caused by debris left in roadway by 18-wheeler truck

SAN ANTONIO – A motorcyclist was killed in a South Side crash on Loop 410 near the Somerset Road exit Thursday morning.

Officers were called to the location shortly before noon, according to the San Antonio Police Department. An off-duty Bexar County sheriff's deputy was already on the scene performing CPR on the motorcylclist, but the man was pronounced dead by paramedics at 11:53 a.m.

Witnesses told police that an 18-wheeler truck lost control and rolled over, spilling concrete rocks and debris all over the roadway.

Traffic suddently stopped, and the motorcyclist could not avoid hitting the vehicle directly in front of him, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to University Hospital. His condition is not known.

The case remained under investigation, according to the police department. The motorcylicst was not identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office Thursday.
