Man killed, left in abandoned truck bed is latest body found in San Antonio area

SAN ANTONIO – Police believe a man found dead in an abandoned truck bed Tuesday was killed.

Officers received a call for an abandoned vehicle in the 1100 block of Mauermann Road around 8 a.m. When the responding officer got out of the car to get the VIN on the black Ford pickup truck, they saw the man in the bed of the truck, San Antonio Police Department Chief William McManus said.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner has determined that the man was killed, but McManus said the details remain unclear. According to McManus, the man was found to have trauma to his upper torso, but declined to specify whether a weapon was used in the killing.

Police said the truck where the man was found did not come back as having been reported stolen and that there are not aware of any missing persons cases matching the man's description.

The body discovered on Tuesday marks the eighth found by area law enforcement since the start of the month.

McManus made clear that the bodies found this month are not connected, saying that if they were, he would be the first person to notify the public.

"I don't want to alarm the public," McManus said. "By even intimating that these murders are connected -- I do not even want to alarm the public because, as far as we know, right now everything points to the fact that they are not (connected)."
