5-year-old found safe after hourslong search of South Side neighborhood

SAN ANTONIO – Police have located a 5-year-old boy reported missing Sunday morning on the city's South Side.

Authorities said Chysander Helio Rosas was left Saturday night in the care of a 23-year-old woman named Cynthia in the area of Harlan and Pleasanton. Hours after police asked the public for help locating the boy, he was found safe, police said.

According to authorities, the child was spotted by an officer Sunday on the city's North Side. The child was with a woman, although it's unclear if the boy was with the woman with whom he was left Saturday.

"(The officer) saw what he thought was the person that was mentioned inside this media blast," said San Antonio police Sgt. Michael Davis. "Off of social media, (the officer) cross-referenced it, went and found that person that was walking with this child."

Police said that the father of the boy reported him missing around 3 a.m. Sunday after he hadn't seen the child for 12 hours.

Chysander is now in the custody of Child Protective Services. Officers are speaking with the woman with whom the boy was found.

According to Davis, the home where the boy lives with his father does not have working electricity or running water.

"We just want to find out how long and why and to talk to the father and see what some of the explanations were (and the) people that reside in this house with this child," Davis said.
