Investigators closer to identifying killer in Seguin man’s 2-year-old murder

Joe Rangel, 57, was killed in his own home

Seguin – On the early morning of July 4, 2017, Joe James Rangel, 57, was found shot to death in his own home. Today, his murder remains unsolved.

The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the 200 block of Shady Lane, where they found Rangel with multiple gunshot wounds.

Rangel was last seen alive the night before. Investigators said he was spending time with his friends and arrived home just after 10 p.m. on July 3. They believe Rangel was shot between 10:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Joseph Rangel said his father would have celebrated his 60th birthday Thursday. He said whoever is responsible should “come forward and give his family peace."

Joseph Rangel said his father’s death has left him with more questions than answers.

“I could pass the person multiple times through the week and never know," he said.

Sgt. Robert Murphy said that the Sheriff’s Office has not stopped looking into Joe Rangel’s murder.

“The family needs an answer. Who killed their loved ones?” Murphy said.

Murphy said investigators are getting closer to identifying Joe Rangel’s killer.
