Garcia said medical staff within the facility responded and began lifesaving measures.

The San Antonio Fire Department made it to the scene, but Nwoye was pronounced dead just before 4 a.m., Garcia said.

She had been previously booked into the detention center on Aug. 13 for two misdemeanor charges, failure to provide I.D and criminal trespass, Garcia said.

The BCSO Criminal Investigations Division and internal affairs will now conduct an investigation into the death. The Texas Rangers also have been notified as is standard protocol.
