SAN ANTONIO - The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said a 52-year-old female inmate who was being held at the Adult Detention Center Annex died early Sunday morning.

According to Johnny Garcia, public information officer with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, Nwoye Hazel experienced a seizure around 3:15 a.m.

Garcia said medical staff within the facility responded and began lifesaving measures.

The San Antonio Fire Department made it to the scene, but Hazel was pronounced dead just before 4 a.m., Garcia said.

She had been previously booked into the detention center on Aug. 13 for two misdemeanor charges, failure to provide I.D and criminal trespass, Garcia said.

The BCSO Criminal Investigations Division and internal affairs will now conduct an investigation into the death. The Texas Rangers also have been notified as is standard protocol.
