Investigators say Gonzalez took the child to Mexico on Feb. 22, left him in an abandoned building and then returned to the United States.

On Friday, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, in collaboration with the El Paso Police Department, released a statement asking the public for help identifying the child.

Police say after Gonzalez saw pictures of her son on the local news, she called police to report that her child had been kidnapped.

Police say after an investigation, Gonzalez was arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering (a) child; imminent danger, bodily injury. She was booked into the El Paso County jail on a bond of $10,000.
