Animal clinic answers call for help after dog severely burned in mobile home fire

Baby underwent at least 1 surgery, expected to fully recover

SAN ANTONIO – UPDATE 9/7/18 (9:20 p.m.): A dog that was severely burned last month is getting better each day. The dog named Baby remains on antibiotics and her skin is growing back, according to a Facebook post by A Doggie 4 You, the nonprofit organization that is helping take care of the dog.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A dog named Baby that was severely burned during a fire in Northeast Bexar County last week is on her way to make a full recovery.

A mobile home on Braewick Drive was reduced to rubble after the fire Tuesday. The family believed they had lost Baby in the fire, but they found her hiding in a closet the next day.

With no home and no money, the family doesn’t want to give up one of their own, and they probably won’t have to.

Amber Stapleton, who owns Baby, thought the dog was gone for good, but they found Baby alive with burns to her stomach and legs.

“I just lost everything, you know, and I can't lose her, too,” Stapleton said.

Nonprofit A Doggie 4 You heard Stapleton’s story and took to Facebook to plead for help.

The call for help was answered by the Pipe Creek Animal Clinic.

Nearly a week after the fire, Baby has undergone one surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, but she still has a long way to go.

Stapleton thanked the community for its support.

“People donated yesterday, which I’m thankful for, because without them, I don't know who I would have,” she said.

A generator is believed to have caused the fire.

The Stapletons also have two other dogs that made it out safely. Anyone who would like to help with Baby’s future surgeries can call the Pipe Creek Animal Clinic at 830-535-4406.

The Stapletons also need help as they try to find a new place to call home.
