Anonymous donor provides 50 families with money for holidays

SAPD chooses families in need

SAN ANTONIO – The holidays can be tough for families who don’t have much, or who have had misfortune, but on Tuesday, Christmas came early for 50 families.

Thanks to an anonymous donation to the San Antonio Police Department, the families were given $100.

San Antonio police Chief William McManus handed out the gifts. Each family was specially chosen. Some were from Haven for Hope, some were victims of burglary and some were from the Battered Women’s Shelter.

All of the families received a call to go down to the police station for the special surprise.

“I really wasn’t expecting it,” Angela Williams said. “(I’m) very, very excited. It’ll help me get a lot for the kids.”

“I said, ‘Thank you. Thank you, Jesus,’” Toni Brooks said.

“You know, when you deal with the police, it's typically not a good thing,” McManus said. "This, hopefully, will give people a little different outlook.”

McManus said the anonymous donor wanted to give back to the people of San Antonio, and wanted to do so through the Police Department after the death of Detective Benjamin Marconi.
