Armed Forces Day event held at Morgan's Wonderland

Veterans, active-duty military honored with day at park, military expo

SAN ANTONIO – Morgan's Wonderland honored current and former military members Saturday for Armed Forces Day.

Military wife Jessica Bannasch was happy to take a load off and enjoy the event.

"My husband is at the advanced leader course in Virginia Beach for the Army School of Music," Bannasch said.

Her husband has been in the Army for six years and she knows firsthand that the whole family serves alongside the soldier. The couple has three little boys and one more on the way.

Bannasch said she is thankful the Department of Veterans Affairs and Morgan's Wonderland teamed up for a free day of park fun and a military support expo.

"It is such a sacrifice to have the separation and to move every couple years, and it's really nice to see a couple benefits and a couple perks," Bannasch said.

The booths at the expo offered services for veterans, ranging from medical care to digital talking books and hearing protection.

"I like the education booths," said active-duty Air Force nurse Lt. Col. Meliza Harris.

She and her husband, a Navy veteran, came to the event last year, too. They said they're always grateful for free services and support.

"I've always felt appreciated and San Antonio is huge, has a great appreciation, because we have all the bases here, a great appreciation for all the military," Harris said.
