Texas Attorney Gen. Greg Abbott received a rousing welcome Friday as he spoke to the Texas Federation of Republican Women's convention in the Alamo City.
Abbott is running as a Republican candidate for governor in the March primary election.
Prior to his speech, he discussed a variety of issues he plans to address as part of his race for governor.
"I will continue to lead the nation in job creation and I will be improving our education system," he said.
Women's issues will remain a priority, he said, as they are in his Attorney General's Office.
"I have been fighting for the Republican women -- all women in the state of Texas -- so hard for the past decade," Abbott said.
He said his domestic violence prevention efforts and the collection of $27 billion in child support are examples of what he's done as attorney general.
Abbott said that his experience sets him apart from Tom Pauken, the other Republican gubernatorial candidate in the May 2014 primary election.
Both men are considered conservatives.
"There has been no one who has fought more for the Constitutional Conservative principles of the state of Texas than myself," he said.
Abbott also pledged to continue to fight against what he called the federal governments encroachment into Texan's lives.
He said, "We don't need DC coming in and messing up our job creation."
The winner of next spring's primary battle between Abbott and Pauken will face Fort Worth Democratic Sen. Wendy Davis in next fall's election.
