Teen shows up at hospital with gunshot wound, may be suspect in car burglary

Shots were fired by car owner, investigators say

SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Sheriff's Office investigators say a teenager who showed up at a Southeast Side hospital Tuesday morning suffering from a gunshot wound may have been involved in an earlier car burglary.

The 17-year-old arrived at Mission Trail Baptist Hospital in a pickup truck at some point before 4 a.m.

Later, sheriff’s investigators spent some time going through the truck in the hospital parking lot, looking for evidence.

Detectives on scene were tight-lipped about the investigation.

According to a public information officer however, officials are looking into whether the teen may have been involved in a vehicle burglary overnight.

A news release says a car owner called 911 shortly before 2:30 a.m. saying he had fired shots at some people who were attempting to break into his vehicle.

The call came from a home near Calaveras Lake, located in the 13100 block of Compass Rose.

The sheriff’s office said there were as many as three people involved in the break-in.

They could not say for sure early on whether the teen who was shot was one of them, but did say they were considering that possibility.

There was no information available on his condition.

A San Antonio police officer who also responded to the hospital said the teen had been transferred to University Hospital for treatment.
