Breakfast for the badge, first responders get free meal

Free meal for National Police Week

BALCONES HEIGHTS, Texas – City leaders gave local first responders a good start to the work week with the most important meal of the day.

Monday was the first-ever "pancakes with police" breakfast.

Some of the Balcones Heights first responders enjoyed omelets, fruit and, of course, pancakes.

It wasn't just officers being "served" some grub -- firefighters and dispatchers also took part in the morning feast.

Organizers said it's a simple way to make sure their work does not go unnoticed.

"We just wanted to give back to our officers to show how much we appreciate them" Lt. John Jahanara, with Balcones Heights police, said. "The guys are always busy. We get caught up day by day. We just don't take the time as often as we should maybe to let our officers know how important they are to us and to our community."

The week also serves as a time to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
