Chase involving carjacked Austin cab ends with wreck, arrest

Nicolas Quinones, 21, faces multiple charges

FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas – A chase that involved a cab that was carjacked in the Austin area came to an end Wednesday morning in Fayette County.

Fayette County sheriff’s officials said they were notified by the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Department of a stolen Yellow Cab that was traveling east of State Highway 71.

Fayette County sheriff’s deputies, the La Grange Police Department and Texas Highway Patrol prepared by setting units up along State Highway 71 with spike strips while other units joined in pursuit with the Bastrop County sheriff's deputies.

The driver of the cab ran over the spike strips, lost control and wrecked just east of La Grange. 

The driver, 21-year-old Nicolas Quinones of Long Beach, California, was taken into custody.

Quinones was arrested on suspicion of evading arrest with a vehicle and transported to the Bastrop County Jail. Charges from Austin are pending.
