Within seven days of his confirmation, the city clerk will ask council members to submit letters of interest.

They'll have three business days to submit their letters and can withdraw at any time during the process.

Then the council will vote to select the new mayor from the City Council.

The council member selected will take office upon Castro's submission of a letter of resignation or upon being sworn in as HUD secretary, whichever is first.
