Classmates hold vigil for SAPD officer killed in the line of duty

Classmates and friends gathered in the parking lot of Highland High School Friday night remember and celebrate the life of San Antonio police officer Robert Deckard.

SAN ANTONIO – Classmates and friends gathered in the parking lot of Highland High School Friday night remember and celebrate the life of San Antonio police officer Robert Deckard.

"He was a great guy and we miss everyday," said friend and classmate Amber Lassiter.

Earlier this month, Deckard was shot in the head during a high-speed chase as he tried to catch a pair of robbery suspects.

Deckard died on Dec. 20 after he was removed from life support.

"I remember him. He always had a smile on his face always made everybody laugh he respected everybody and he never singled himself out," said classmate Christopher Deleon.

Classmates say officer Deckard, dreamed of being a part of SAPD since high school.

"He didn't deserve it but we all know he did something that he loved." Said Lassiter.

The final arrangements have been made for Deckard's funeral, San Antonio police announced Friday morning.

He will be buried at Mission Burial Park South, located at 1700 S.E. Military Dr.

Interment will immediately follow the church service on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014.

Visitation:

    Porter Loring Funeral Home, located at 1101 McCullough

    Officer Visitation Starts: Thursday, Jan. 2, at 8 a.m.

    Public Visitation: Friday, Jan. 3, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

    Officer Deckard's Family will be at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Church services:

    Saturday, Jan. 4

    Cornerstone Church 18755 Stone Oak Pkwy

    Starting at 10 a.m.

The funeral procession route will start at Cornerstone Church, head south on Stone Oak Parkway, left onto Loop 1604, South on Highway 281/I-37, Right on S.E. Military.
