Clues needed in mother's unsolved 2006 murder

Amber Lyn Smith's infant, toddler found alone in Seguin home

SEGUIN, Texas – Reported missing in January 2006 by her common-law husband, Amber Lyn Smith had vanished, leaving her infant and toddler alone in their Seguin home.

Her remains were discovered beneath a small bridge in rural Guadalupe County 18 days later, on Feb. 16, 2006, about 10 miles away near Lake McQueeney.

Her small memorial remains at the site.

DNA analysis, dental records and tattoos finally confirmed the body was that of the missing 28-year-old mother.

Now, nearly 11 years after a bridge inspector came upon her body, the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office is again asking for the public’s help in solving her disappearance and murder.

Sgt. Craig Jones with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, said he’s been on the case from the beginning.

Jones said because people often change over the years, “We’re hoping someone that might have known something back in 2006 may have information they never shared and they may come forward today.”

He said Smith’s common-law husband remains a person of interest.

“We’re entertaining anybody and everything,” Jones said.

Jones said for that reason, as long as he’s around, he doesn’t consider Amber Lyn Smith’s murder a cold case.

He still believes someone has the clues or evidence they need to finally solve her murder.

“Waterfalls start with a drop of water. These kinds of cases are like that,” Jones said. “We’re looking for that drop of water that opens the floodgates.”

The public is urged to call Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers or contact the Seguin Police Department with any information.
