Comal, Guadalupe rivers closed to further entry in New Braunfels

Decision made based on potential for severe weather

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – As of 5:30 p.m. Sunday, the Comal and Guadalupe rivers were closed to further entry, within New Braunfels city limits, officials said.

The decision was made based on the potential for severe weather moving into the area.

The area is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. Severe storms with large hail and high winds have developed north and west of the New Braunfels area, city officials said in a news release.

Crews and public safety workers are monitoring the weather and low-water crossings. They encourage people to “turn around, don’t drown,” if the storms produce significant rainfall.

The city also provided a road closure map.
