COMAL COUNTY, Texas – The Comal River in New Braunfels is closed to all recreational activity and the Guadalupe River is flowing too fast for activity due to heavy rains, the New Braunfels Police Department said.

Police said the Comal River is flowing over the top of the Tube Chute Dam at 700 cfs, and with forecasters predicting more rain over the next few days, the river will continue to be monitored.

The 5,000 cfs outflow from the Canyon Lake Dam, along with Tuesday's rain, is causing the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels to be too dangerous for any forms of recreation, including tubing, and most rafting and kayaking, police said. However, once the lake is back to its normal 909 feet above sea level, more activities on the Guadalupe will be made available.

The NBPD is urging drivers to use caution in the area and to always remember: Turn around, don't drown.
