Community marches to show support, honor slain SA detective

Detective Benjamin Marconi killed Sunday

SAN ANTONIO – The community showed its support to honor and thank slain Detective Benjamin Marconi.

City Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran said she kept getting calls from people wanting to pay their respects to the detective killed in the line of duty, so they marched from Milam Park to Public Safety Headquarters.

The people marching held signs that read “Thank you Detective Marconi.”

Marchers were met by San Antonio police Chief William McManus, who said the department received many phone calls, emails, text messages and cards since Marconi died Sunday.

“I want to thank the city. I want to thank the country, all the police departments who have reached out to us. I want to thank everyone. Thank you all for your continued support,” McManus said.

“The event that took place here Sunday was not a reflection of San Antonio. People gathering, people in prayer and people supporting our SAPD, that is our San Antonio,” Viagran said.

Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood was also at the event. He will be trying the case against Marconi’s accused killer.
