NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – The community showed its support for an 11-year-old boy who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car crash earlier this year.
A support group held a silent auction benefit for Carter Wilbanks’s family at the New Braunfels fairgrounds Saturday.
A handful of those in attendance were friends, but most were strangers who were touched by Carter’s story. Dozens donated items to be auctioned off.
Among the donations were an autographed hat and guitar from Carter’s favorite musician, George Strait.
Carter’s mom said the outpouring of support has been overwhelming, but she most appreciates the prayers.
“That's what's gotten Carter through. That's what's gotten John and I through and our family through, is the people that pray for a little boy they don't even know,” said Tara Wilbanks, Carter’s mother. “It's the way God wants us to treat each other. It’s the way the world really should be. We should do that without a tragedy.”
Tara Wilbanks said the family gets through it day by day and they’re not quitters.
