Crews extinguish apartment fire on Southeast Side

Fire may have been electrical, officials say

SAN ANTONIO - A fire at an apartment complex on the Southeast Side on Wednesday afternoon could have been much worse, officials said.

The San Antonio Fire Department said the fire began around 2 p.m. at an apartment in the 7200 block of Presa Street.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, heavy smoke coming from the apartment prompted them to call for a second alarm out of precaution. Once they assessed the fire, Fire Department officials decided additional assistance was not needed.

The fire started in an empty apartment unit on the ground floor. Officials believe the fire may have been caused by something electrical and does not seem to be suspicious.

Nearby apartments suffered minor smoke damage, but no one was hurt.
