BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Crews worked to put out a fire in south Bexar County on Saturday near Hardy and Sandy Hills roads.
Crews said the fire started as a controlled burn by a resident in the area, but it quickly spread because of the high wind and low humidity.

Some homes were evacuated, and at one point, 18 structures were threatened. But no one was hurt and the only damage was to abandoned vehicles parked in the area.
A battalion chief with Bexar County Emergency Services said crews were able to get the fire under control with the help of a drone.
“We did have one drone that was flying up through the air. We were able to see the fire scene very, very well. It was actually a very good tool for us to have,” said Ryan Crady, Bexar County battalion chief.
Officials want residents to keep in mind that when wind comes in with cold fronts this time of year, fire can spread fast.
