Sex offender convicted of raping girl, 13, accused of failing to register with law enforcement

Jose Luis Magana, 60, hasn't reported to police since 2014

SAN ANTONIO – A sex offender who served 10 years in prison for the rape of a 13-year-old girl is facing the possibility of more time behind bars after he was indicted for failing to comply with sex offender registration conditions.

Jose Luis Magana, 60, was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child in 1993. A judge ordered Magana to register as a sex offender annually for life upon release from prison.

"In 2014, a warrant was issued for Magana's arrest, following an indictment filed with the Bexar County 399th District Court. The indictment alleged that Magana failed to register as a sex offender with the local law enforcement authority and absconded from supervision," Deputy US Marshal Chris Bozeman said.

The state's sex offender registry site says Magana also goes by the nicknames "J-L, XX."

Magana is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

"His last known place of residence was on the Southwest Side of San Antonio," Bozeman said.

If you have any information on Magana's whereabouts, you are asked to call the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force at 210-657-8500.
