Woman critically wounded, gunman in custody in South Bexar County

Shooting reported on Highway 281 S. near Atascosa County line

SAN ANTONIO – A woman was wounded in a shooting Tuesday morning in South Bexar County.

The shooting was reported around 10:45 a.m. in the 2550 block of Highway 281 South near the Atascosa County line.

Officials with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said deputies found the 29-year-old victim with a gunshot wound.

The 19-year-old man accused of shooting the woman fled the scene, and was on the run for nearly an hour before he was captured. Authorities said he was arrested without incident.

BCSO officials said the shooting occurred after an argument turned physical. The man grabbed a handgun and shot the victim.

The victim was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition, a lieutenant at the scene said.
