Domestic violence charge not filed against SAPD officer

Detective Xavier Cordero was suspended without pay

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio police detective who was accused of assaulting his wife was never formally charged with the crime. However, an internal investigation into the case led to him being suspended from duty for violating a department policy.

Detective Xavier Cordero turned himself in after his wife said he hit her in the face in August. Suspension paperwork released to KSAT-12 today said Cordero left the scene before officers arrived. The document said "formal criminal charges were never filed."

Bexar County court records show the criminal case was officially closed earlier this month.

SAPD said "Detective Cordero failed to abide by the ordinary and reasonable rules of good conduct and behavior. His actions brought discredit both to himself and the department."

Cordero initially faced a contemplated indefinite suspension, but reached a deal with Chief William McManus to reduce the suspension to three days without pay.
