Drive-by shooters target same Cibolo street within 2 weeks

SAN ANTONIO – For the second time in 10 days, Cibolo police are investigating gunfire on a specific neighborhood street.

The latest incident happened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of Royal Troon Drive.

"When officers responded and arrived on the scene, they were told that it was a drive-by shooting," said Officer Matt Schima, a public information officer for the Cibolo Police Department. "There were no victims. Nobody was shot."

At least one bullet did graze a tree. The gunfire also hit the garage door of a nearby home.

"My room was really quiet at the time. I didn't have a fan on. And it came from that direction over there and came over here," Dylan Samborski, who lives a few doors down, said.

Samborski said he was up late reading when he heard a barrage of gunfire from what sounded like a shooter on the move.

"Maybe like eight or nine (shots)," Samborski said. "And it just kept going and going."

Schima said it is too early to tell whether anyone in that specific home was the intended target.

Officers have been called there several times in the past.

"Just (for) disturbances and other activities," Schima said. "We have not had a shooting at that residence in the recent past."

Police, however, did respond to another shooting on that same street recently.

CPD officers answered a call a few blocks down Sept. 17 for what appeared to be people in two different cars firing at each other.

No one was injured at that time either.

"It definitely is dangerous, but we're doing everything we can to stop this activity from continuing," Schima said.

That includes calling on the public for help.

After the first shooting, police were able to obtain surveillance video from a home. Schima said they hope to do the same this time around.
