SAN ANTONIO - The Eastside Dreamers Academy launched Thursday afternoon as high school students learned about workforce development, civic engagement and more.
The Eastside Dreamers Academy is a OneMillionDreams program designed to develop 13- to 17-year-old underserved youth in a leadership development and community engagement program that mentors the achievement of dreams, and creates educational road maps, career path potential and civic and community impact, organizers said.
Each student will have a mentor and will be exposed to people and organizations that can help them achieve their goals.
"We're mentoring their dreams, but first we've got to find out what matters to them and what they really, really want and what they're passionate about and what they're already committed to on some level," program facilitator Winslow Swart said.
"We've learned that leaders aren't born, they're developed," San Antonio Hispanic Chamber president Ramiro Cavazaos said.
