SAN ANTONIO - The brother of a fallen San Antonio police detective is keeping his sibling's memory alive by taking on a very challenging gym workout.

The Marconi Workout is dedicated to Detective Benjamin Marconi, of the San Antonio Police Department, who was shot and killed in his police cruiser on Nov. 20, 2016, in front of Public Safety Headquarters.

The officer's older brother, Tom Marconi, has been preparing for months for the Crossfit challenge.

"His badge number was 2382, so 2,382 meters of rowing," Marconi said. "Twenty rounds, which is 20 years of his service."

Marconi said his younger brother enjoyed working out, so he wanted to emulate his sibling's hard work in the gym and dedication to fitness on the anniversary of his death.

"If he would have ever known I was going to do something like this, he'd probably say, 'Did your doctor say it was OK?'" Marconi said.

Marconi said there is not a day that goes by that he doesn't think about his brother's glowing personality and warm hugs.

"Whenever he gave you that hug, he would hug you like he might not see you again," Marconi said, while fighting back tears.

Marconi also remembers the times his brother and sisters would visit with each other.

"We would get together as family, so that's why it's probably a little tougher right around this time," Marconi said.

Arthur Pruned, owner of Crossfit Unchained, where Marconi is working out, said it's a privilege to be part of the workout dedication.

"He is part of San Antonio, so doing this workout on his anniversary and also doing it with Tom, it just makes it very special to honor Ben," Pruned said.

Marconi said he takes time to remember Officer Miguel Moreno and firefighter Scott Deem, who were killed in the line of duty after his brother.

"Our hearts still go out to the Moreno family and also the Deem family. Because, you know, that was not too long after. And that was hard, knowing what they went through, too," Marconi said.
