Family at church when they learned home was on fire

2 homes destroyed in NE Bexar County

SAN ANTONIO – A fast-moving fire destroyed two houses Sunday, and county fire officials say the cause looks suspicious.

The flames torched the homes in the 7100 block of Cork Drive in Northeast Bexar County around noon.

Homeowner, Kevin Dancy said he was at church when his family was notified that their home was burning down.

"I can't believe it. We left for church this morning and we get a call that the house is burning down, kinda rough," Dancy said.

He said his family’s most prized possessions were lost in the blaze.

“Just a lot of memories, things that we treasure, pictures and things," Dancy said.

The family also lost their family pet, Carter. The dog was trapped inside the home.

I'd like the community to pray for us as we get through this. I know other folks have been through it and I know we'll get through it but it's just rough time right now," Dancy said.

Firefighters from several surrounding communities responded to the fire call, but had difficulty maneuvering through narrow streets to reach the houses.

The flames totaled both houses. The fire marshal says damages are around $100,000.
