Family celebrates man's birthday at cemetery, seeks help finding his killer

Isaac Orosco, 20, shot dead in July 2016

SAN ANTONIO – Isaac Orosco's family and friends spent what would have been his 22nd birthday with him the only way they could -- at the cemetery.

"Your mom is going to stay strong and is going to seek justice for you. I'm never going to stop. I don't care how long it takes," said his mother, Janie Esparza, as the group gathered around his marker at San Fernando No. 2 Cemetery.

That search has already taken two birthdays now. Orosco, 20, was killed at in a drive-by shooting on July 28, 2016, at an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Northwest Crossroads.

“It's not getting any easier," Esparza said. "Every day is a struggle for me to wake up and keep  going without my son."

She doesn't have answers either. Esparza said she's in contact with the police every week, but they can't tell her if there are leads.

Still, she is determined her son's murder will not go unpunished and is asking for people to come forward.

"Please, say anything," she said. “Whatever little information you know, please call crime stoppers and say it."

While she waits for an arrest, she remembers her only son and treasures even the smallest memories.

"Just the moments when we'd watch TV together, when we'd spend time together. Everything's a memory to me. Everything. Everything that I had with my son," Esparza said.

Though her son is gone, Esparza still has him in her heart, and she still has faith.

"Whoever did this to you is going to pay," she said. "They're going to pay and they're going to see what it's like to be in jail."
